An IG Schools Webinar to Exploring Social Distancing in Primary Schools and Early Years Settings.

Featuring:

The Rt Hon. David Laws, Former Minister of State for Schools and Executive Chairman, Education Policy Institute (EPI)

Sir Andrew Carter OBE, Executive Headteacher, South Farnham School Educational Trust

Helen Frostick, National Leader of Education, and Headteacher, St Mary Magdalen's Catholic Primary School

Jude Barber, Director and Architect, Collective Architecture

This webinar reflects on what re-opening schools will look like, and what considerations need to be made to plan for social distancing in practice.

Key areas of discussion include:

  • The importance of maintaining social distancing to prevent further spread of COVID-19, and what the 'hierarchy of controls' can look like in these contexts

  • The practicalities of getting young children to school and safely keeping them there, particularly children who rely on public transport and those too young to understand how to keep two meters apart

  • How school spaces could be re-designed to help facilitate social distancing and new spaces schools could make use of in the local community

  • Safeguarding concerns around ensuring social distancing, and keeping children healthy on return to school

  • The fears and offering some reassurance for teachers and leaders through this time, including around the potential need for personal protective equipment (PPE) for teachers and other school staff
